Kochi: Kerala Blasters FC paid tribute to legendary Indian footballer IM Vijayan, who was recently conferred the Padma Shri award. Abhik Chatterjee, CEO, Kerala Blasters FC, honored Vijayan with a golden shawl before the recent ISL match in Kochi.

IM Vijayan expressed his joy at sharing this moment with Kerala Blasters FC, stating that this Padma Shri award is a recognition for the Indian football.

Vijayan, who was part of the Indian team that won the 1999 SAFF Cup, made history during the tournament by scoring one of the fastest international goals in the sport’s history. He scored the goal just 12 seconds into the match against Bhutan.

Throughout his career, Vijayan excelled both as a midfielder and as a forward. In 2003, he was honored with the prestigious Arjuna Award. After officially retiring from playing, IM Vijayan, who is currently the Assistant Commandant of MSP and Technical Committee Chairman of AIFF, continues to be actively involved in football.
